Sharon Hughes - Maths and Statistics Tutor Hello my name is Sharon Hughes - I own and run Tutors4gcse. I teach Maths. I am a 42 year old mother of two.Sharon C Hughes, Tutors4gcse

I am a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Maths teacher. I led the Maths and Numeracy team at West Cheshire College and co-ordinated the Functional and Key Skills teams of maths, English and ICT at Macclesfield College.

After becoming frustrated with 'the system', I left full-time employment in order to set up Tutors4gcse. Beliefs that motivated me to leave the FE environment are the foundations I have built my business on.

I enjoy producing, both physical and interactive, resources which learners can work on in pairs or small groups to develop understanding. I have written a number of guides to help children and their parents with a number of educational worries.

In my spare time I serve on the committee at Buckley Swimming Club where I am the Welfare Officer. I am an active member of 'Women in Business' networks in Cheshire and North Wales. I am an enthusiastic tweeter and answer maths queries for learners across the world.

Tim Youdell - English Tutor

Hello, my name is Tim Youdell. I am an English teacher.

I have taught English for nearly 30 years, as well as examining at GCSE level and writing educational materials. Alongside full-time employment while an English lecturer in further education I also taught privately a range of secondary school age students.

I believe education is the only lasting passport to social mobility. Concentrated individual focus is the best way of promoting success. I diagnose and improve written skills alongside the spoken communication which is so vital to social and business development. To paraphrase: Give us your child until June and we will improve their grades. This is no idle boast. I have longitudinal supporting evidence and assure a holistic experience with achievement for your son/daughter.

Additional to my experience I hold three higher qualifications in Education: a Bachelor of Humanities joint honours degree in English and Education; a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and a Masters in Education. I started research at Doctoral level but did not complete. Maybe I wanted to get out more!

My hobbies are sports orientated. These days I enjoy the gym and walking. I feel mentally sharpest when exercise is part of my routine. This was the original purpose of the gymnasium, after all.

I look forward to providing you with regular progress updates as your child learns through Tutors4gcse.

Ian Holmes - Maths Tutor Hello my name is Ian Holmes. I am a qualified and experienced member of the maths delivery team at Tutors4gcse.

My background in telecommunications engineering, of which mathematics has always formed an essential part, has enabled me to look at the subject from a practical as well as a theoretical viewpoint.

Relating the principles of mathematics to examples in everyday life is, I believe, a powerful learning tool, and I use this as much as possible in my own delivery style. If we can introduce a little fun along the way – and who says maths shouldn’t be fun! – the whole learning experience becomes more effective and enjoyable.

In my free time, I enjoy playing music, and I am a member of a three-piece country/folk band. I also enjoy getting involved in DIY projects (many of which, surprisingly, involve more maths than you might think!)

Louise Jones - English Tutor Hello, my name is Louise Jones. I'm a teacher of English and a Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Although I teach across the ability ranges, I do have a particular interest in supporting and developing confidence in those students who find learning a challenge.

I operate on the principle that in order to make progress, all students need to know where they, and what they need to do in order to improve. Teaching a student to become independent, and to learn how to self assess their own work, is crucial to their success.

In my free time, I enjoy entertaining my own children with visits to museums or walks in the park. I also volunteer on the committee of Flint swimming club, read as much as possible, and I'm a camping enthusiast!

Jen March - Maths Tutor Hello, my name is Jen March. I am a Maths tutor.

I studied Mathematics at the University of Dundee and graduated with a 2.1 honours degree. I began to work at West Cheshire College where I taught Maths for couple of years. Then I moved to work for a Training Provider to teach adults in the workplace. I provided both one-to-one and group tuition for students of any age: from 5 year olds up to adults studying for their own Teacher Training entry exams.

I strongly believe in steady progress. I have a patient approach with my students. They feel fully supported throughout sessions which boosts their confidence so they can become independent learners. I use many methods of teaching, including group activities and puzzles. I do my best to make my sessions fun: Learning should be engaging.

Personally, I enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors on walks with my husband and my dog, Bud. I also play netball in 2 ladies leagues which keeps me fit and is lots of fun!

Sam Harbour - Maths and Science Tutor Hello, my name is Sam Harbour. I teach Science and Maths. Being a teacher is my vocation: I enjoy passing on new skills and supporting people through the important stages in their lives.

I have been teaching Science and Maths for 4 years now. I trained and had experience at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, including learners with a great range of abilities. All of this has provided me with a sound understanding of the current education system, its strengths and shortcomings. I strongly believe that all young people deserve to obtain the best education possible. Sharon's approach to teaching and learning and my own go hand in hand which is why I decided to work at Tutors4gcse.

I have a wealth of experience working with children with additional educational needs and have taught such learners, both 1-2-1 and in groups. The experience led me to believe that integration is vital in the process of education and that learning is for all, without exception. The barriers in children's learning should be removed and replaced with constant support. I regularly seek out new and engaging techniques to inspire my students. Inspiring students is what I do best.

Outside of work, I love meeting my friends and outdoor sports, such as climbing and canoeing.
