Competition Time – Chester Chronicle Competition

Maths and English Tuition

Win a year of study support for your youngster, worth £720

We’ve joined forces with Tutors4GCSE to offer one Chronicle reader the chance to win a year’s worth of out-of-school tuition for their youngster in either Maths or English.

Tutors4GCSE is celebrating its second anniversary inspiring youngsters from junior school up to GCSE level.  Studying maths or English, in a small group, learners develop their skills as well as their confidence while having fun.

Courses run at easy-to-reach community venues across North Wales and Chester, during term time and continue throughout school breaks, to ensure youngsters don’t lose skills and confidence during the holidays, particularly important when moving between Key Stages.

The study sessions are run by former West Cheshire College lecturer Sharon  Hughes, who has three additional tutors and is about to recruit two more. She said: “Our sessions are not like school, we use many different types of activity to make learning enjoyable.

“Learners work at their own pace on their personal areas for improvement, with the help of a friendly, supportive tutor. We draw up an Individual Learning Plan and a timescale to achieve this plan, with parents being kept up to date with their child’s progress.

“By using a blended learning approach, combining small weekly group tuition with regular online homework tasks we are best able to help learners achieve their potential. This blended learning approach is a more cost effective alternative to 1-2-1 tuition, whilst still proving individualised learning.”

The mum-of-two set up Tutors4GCSE after meeting many young people through her work who had not achieved their potential at school.
She said: “They had academic ability but for various reasons had not been motivated and engaged enough to develop it.   It’s sad that so many people have such a negative view of maths particularly and I wanted to do something to address it – I wanted to do something to help before they left school so they could achieve their goals.”

We’re offering a year’s worth of study in Maths or English for one youngster worth £720. The sessions, in groups of up to six students, will be based at Broughton Park Shopping Centre, in easy reach of Flintshire, Wrexham and Chester.  Entrants must be in Year 5 or up to Year 11 in September, and presently full-time in a mainstream school.
